Inheritance model

Business structure attributes use a cascading inheritance model. An attribute assigned at a higher level automatically applies to all descendant locations unless a descendant has its own direct assignment that overrides it.

Tip: Assign at the highest practical level. Rather than configuring each store individually, assign the start day at the division or region level and let inheritance cascade to all child locations.
In this example, the US Division has Generate Volume Intervals (GVI) enabled, which cascades to Stores 101 and 102. The Europe Division does not have GVI enabled, so its stores inherit the default (off). Both Start Day of Week (SDW) and GVI follow the same cascading inheritance model.

Notes

  • Assignments can be made at the site level and above only — never below a site.
  • A child's direct assignment always overrides the inherited value.
  • When a location is moved to a new parent, its direct assignment (if any) is retained — it does not automatically inherit the new parent's value.
  • The summary page displays only direct assignments for current and future periods.
